With temperatures all across the United States reaching above 100 degrees, many RV owners may be wondering how to cool their RV in these extreme conditions. Luckily, Seguin RV is here to help! If you’d like to know things you can do to help ensure you stay cool this summer, check out our following tips:
Is your air conditioner operating properly?
The air conditioner in your RV should condition the air around 16 to 22 degrees, if you notice that it is struggling to provide conditioning to the air it may be time to get your RV AC checked out. This can make a large difference in how cool you’ll feel in your RV.
Are your A/C filters clean?
Keeping the A/C filters in your RV clean is essential to the health of your air conditioner and ability to cool your RV properly. If you notice your filters have seen better days you can wash them using soapy water or use a vacuum cleaner. If you wash them, be sure to rinse and dry them properly before reinstalling. We always recommend having an extra set of A/C filters in the event you need to replace them while on the road.
Do you have proper ventilation in your RV?
Having proper ventilation in your RV can help prevent heat from building up during the summer. Installing vent covers that allow for ventilation over your roof vents can help promote better ventilation. They allow fresh air in while any heat or stale air can escape.
Request a shaded site.
Limiting the amount of sunlight your RV is exposed to can greatly reduce the ambient temperature, when making a reservation request to have a site that provides shade.
Use your awnings, blinds and curtains.
Most RVs come equipped with a patio awning. window awnings, blinds and curtains. All of these can provide protection from the sunlight, lowering the ambient temperature inside your RV. Also try to open the RV door as little as possible as this will allow the colder air to escape.
Install a refrigerator vent fan.
Installing a thermostat controlled refrigerator vent fan can help aid in removing hot air away from the refrigerator in your RV. These can be placed at the back of your refrigerator or over the roof vent. They can be quite easy to install yourself or you can trust in a local RV dealer for the installation.
Use LED lighting.
While LED lighting does still emit some heat in your RV, they are nothing in comparison to OEM incandescent or halogen lighting. If you are currently using halogen or incandescent bulbs in your RV, try replacing them with LEDs.
Cook outdoors.
Cooking inside your RV will directly raise the temperature, during the hot summer months try utilizing outside cooking. Most campsites offer grills that can be used or you may think of investing in a portable grill. This will allow you to cook all your meals without adding the additional heat to your RV.
